Crash StepsIndependent public guide · not a law firm

Educational information only. This is not legal advice, medical advice, or an emergency service. It does not create an attorney-client relationship, and a disclaimer is not a promise that the page fits your crash. If someone may be hurt, call 911.

What this site actually stores

Privacy

The checklist remembers which boxes you marked. It does not collect the crash. This policy matches that behavior as of the date below.

Checklist marks stay on your device

When you check a step, the browser writes to local storage under the key houston-accident-guide.checklist.v1. The value is JSON. Each key is a step id from the checklist, and the only accepted value is the boolean true. Example shape, not a real crash: {"call-911":true} . The page ignores any other data if it finds it in that key.

The site does not ask for, and the checklist cannot store, your name, phone number, email, address, driver-license number, plate, insurance policy, crash narrative, photo, or precise location. Marks are not transmitted to the publisher. Reset deletes the key. Your browser’s site-data controls delete it too. A private window starts empty. This publisher cannot see the marks and cannot recover them for you.

No accounts, ads, or analytics

There is no account, no newsletter, no contact form, and no comment box. The site’s own code does not set analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or social-media pixels. It does not load Google Analytics, Tag Manager, advertising networks, or embedded chat. Fonts are included with the site so the browser does not request them from a font service at reading time. There are no social-network or messaging share buttons, and no third-party video.

Calling 911, or calling an official number linked from a page, uses your phone. That call is between you and the agency. Leaving for an official website, including a crash-report purchase tool, puts you under that site’s policy. Those tools will ask for crash details. Type those details only on the official tool, not here.

Hosting logs

This publisher does not run a database for the site. A company that hosts the static files may keep ordinary server logs, such as IP address, date and time, the URL requested, and the browser’s user agent, in order to operate and secure the service. This draft is configured with a public site address. Log retention is still the host’s practice, not something this policy can set from the page.

Because the publisher does not receive checklist contents or form submissions, it does not sell them, share them, or use them for advertising. That sentence describes this architecture. It is not a certification under every privacy statute, and it does not waive any right you have against a hosting company or against a government site you later visit.

Children

The guide is written for the general public, including families who were in a crash. It is not a service directed at collecting information from children. Do not type a child’s name or medical details into the checklist. There is nowhere to type them.

Changes

If the site later adds a host, a measurement tool, or any collection, this page has to change first. The current edition has none of those. There is no publisher inbox for a privacy request. That limit is stated so it is not mistaken for a promise that no one else in the chain, such as a future host or an official site you click through to, keeps logs.
